RING SAFARI

So, the last time I travelled to Europe, I fell in love with a brightly colored cocktail ring in the shape of a snake.  It's turned out to be quite the lucky charm.

Curiosity led me to research the meaning behind different animal rings

They can symbolize everything from individuality to luck to wisdom.

If you're looking for longevity, strength, and power you can have it all with this little black elephant for $4.00 at forever 21!

IF KIM WAS A...

SLEEK CONTEMPORARY STUDIO.

Charcoal grey is the quickest way to update an outfit OR living space.

And after an entire childhood of rebelling against it, I've fully embraced the power of a little punch of pink against a neutral palette.

There's been alot of buzz around the artist Deborah Bowness who is responsible for the interesting hand-printed bookshelf wallpaper pictured above. I love her work but also thought wall decals can be chic in a room as well. Like the Keith Haring Pack of Dogs piece for around $30.
Also featured in this post the arden b. dress

IF KIM WAS A...

There's a lot going on in my head. Sometime the images overlap and I find myself wondering how I would capture the look of a room in an outfit or painting. Kim Kardashian is eye candy for me, I love her look, from head to toe. As a curvy woman, I look to many women like her for inspiration.

If Kim were a chair and ottoman, she would definetly be this GORGEOUS LOUIS XV CUSTOM MADE SET.

IF KIM WAS A...

If Kim was a fabulous piece of art, she would definitely be an abstract with lots of texture. Just like this larger than life statement piece by the artist ROWENA.  Her experimental blonde hair color mimics the many hues found in background of this piece. And both provide an excellent neutral that supports the bold choice of color.
The dress and the art would surely be the main focus of any cocktail party.

AKIRA CHICAGO online offers this sexy alternative for $89.
Forever 21 offers this cute zipper clutch for $19.

GAULTIER FOR TARGET

It seems these days, everyone is providing chain stores with limited edition clothing.
So much so, that what started as a brilliant idea, is quickly becoming passe. Outside of Stella McCartney(who can do no wrong) for H&M and Anna-Sui for Target, the others seemed rushed and mass produced.

Jean-Paul Gaultier is about to change that with his new spring line for Target. Set to debut March 7th 2010, the items appear well thought out and well made, I think I would actually stand in line for this one

RALPH LAUREN SPRING INSPIRATION

If you watch any makeover show, you'll always see the poor uninformed fashion victim sitting in the chair as the panel of experts pick apart their lack of style. Then, through the sobs of shame you'll hear "It was hot in the (insert appropriate decade here)".  I'll usually spout judging opinions at the screen for the entire process.  The whole time knowing I'm always one pair of vintage levi's away from being in that chair myself.

You can understand my joy when the models of Ralph Lauren Spring 2010 emerged wearing the oversized blazers and jeans with heels and caps.

We've gotten a fashion pass to Lisa Bonet's closet once again ladies.

 DO IT. LOVE IT.

REAL RECESSIONISTA

Check out a 1968 authentic recessionista. Maisie Jean Green is her name and looking at these campy pictures of her perched atop a bulldozer and along side a tractor, you would never guess this fashionable young lady had a care in the world.

Well, she did.  She was alone in a new country facing the responsibility of making a new home for her family to come join her.

You can bet wardrobe was not at the top of her "to do" list.  So what did this leggy brunette decide to do to stretch her dollar back in the day?  She bought things in BULK, including rice and flour.  Anyone who's been on a tight budget knows you can make a variety of dishes with these two ingredients, but not everyone would think of using the bags they came in as garment fabric.

That's right, like so many of our African-American women that paved the way, Maisie Jean Green had to think outside the box.

This dress is an example of true creativity and style.
Integral elements of the woman she has become today.

Men, if you must celebrate Valentine's day...be original.

Try buying make-up or accessories with a pink or red theme.

Ditch the overpriced roses, grab a red bag and pink tissue and fill it with goodies like these from Sephora and Mac.
